over committed
I am sure there are some days where the only way you can describe yourself is over committed. It seems like this is the theme of my life these days. Oddly enough there is something I like about it, I feel a sense of accomplishment when I am running around non stop, bouncing from one task to the next. I do wish I felt less chaos and frustration, maybe I just want to be able to describe myself as committed, which will require me to set my priorities straight.
(as a side note: this actually a headless chicken, you can read the story of Mike the headless Chicken who lived for 18 months after losing his head at miketheheadlesschicken.org.)
I spent the day yesterday in a goal setting class and it really helped me to regain some focus- so that I can be committed instead of over committed. I wanted to share some of my notes from the class:
IQ is NOT the most important ingredient of success, these three factors are:
1. Self Confidence
2. Perseverance
3. The tendency to goal set
Goals are wishes with a plan
Choose goals that help you fulfill your purpose in life, it doesn't matter what your purpose is, just that you have one. Your purpose should become your mission in life. Self worth come from purpose.
Are you willing to pay the price to meet your goals and fulfill your purpose in life? Every wish/goal has its price; Dollars, Effort, Sacrifice.
Start here;
1. write down your goal, be specific you need to be able to visualize it- feel it, touch it, smell it, taste it
2. make a plan
3. set a deadline- you don' t have a goal until you have deadlines
4. believe in your goal
5. take immediate action
Make the first step so easy you cannot not do it, set intermediate targets to keep you on track, transfer these deadlines into your calendar
Success takes time- be patient
Manage your time- figure out the most important thing for you to be doing right now- do it. You cannot get everything done so do the most productive thing possible at every given moment.
Your greatest resource is other people, ask for help when you need it, when asking for help be specific
Struggle presents you with the opportunity to become more that what you are.
Success flows from passion not self-discipline- not that self discipline it not important.
The moment YOU change YOU the world will change around you. Things you want to happen will begin to happen.
Nothing ground breaking- I know, but it was good to spend some time thinking about my goals, what is really important to me, what I want to accomplish and what I need to focus on. I also realized I am willing to make a sacrifice to make my dreams come true because that is what it is going to take.
So right now; set a goal, make a plan, set a deadline, and take action TODAY!
