world nutella day
Well, apparently I missed it. Yesterday was World Nutella Day- so mark your calendars, February 5= World Nutella Day, l'd like to think of it as a day where the Nutella calories you consume don't count.;)

I can't imagine that there is a single person out there that doesn't know what Nutella is but just to be clear Nutella is a chocolate hazelnut spread that is ridiculously delicious spread on pretty much anything. My favorite simple nutella application is spread on a warm flakey croissant- perfect for an impromptu dessert or romantic breakfast in bed. If you don't have a croissant handy or want to save on some calories it is actually super delicious on a piece of fresh white sandwich bread. My mouth is watering.

Anyway since Valentine's Day is right around the corner, the point of this blog post was to share with you a delicious and impressive Nutella recipe you can whip up with minimal effort for your sweetie.
Nutella Mug Cake
Ingredients
4 tablespoons self rising flour*
4 tablespoons white granulated sugar
1 egg
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
3 tablespoons Nutella
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons olive or vegetable oil
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Divide mix into two coffee mugs and pop in to the microwave for 1 1/2 to 3 minutes. I prefer to cook the mug cake for less time, it produces more of a lava cake texture on the inside, if you cook it for longer it's more of a traditional cake texture. If you want to get fancy add some whipped cream or a scoop of your favorite ice cream. Delicous either way!
*you can make your own self rising flour, for each cup of all-purpose flour, add 1 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.
This recipe from Angie McGowen on Babble was vetted by my sister, Marisa, who for quite some time was in search of the perfect, moist and delicious mug cake. Marisa is also quite a chocolate connosier and I noticed several Nutella/ chocolatey recipes on her pinterest board (which I promptly stole and pinned on my pinterest board) that made my mouth water and that I plan on making ASAP. Just try to resisit...
